What is the Progesterone Test?
Progesterone is a hormone produced by the ovaries after ovulation. It prepares the uterine lining for pregnancy and maintains early pregnancy. Low progesterone can cause luteal phase defects, recurrent miscarriages, and irregular periods. Testing is typically done on Day 21 of a regular 28-day cycle.
Why Should You Take This Test?
Level above 10 ng/mL mid-luteal confirms ovulation. Low progesterone may explain infertility or early pregnancy loss.
Who Should Get Tested?
Recurrent Miscarriages
Low progesterone is a common cause.
Confirming Ovulation
High Day-21 progesterone confirms ovulation occurred.
Irregular Periods
Evaluates luteal phase adequacy.
