What is the Widal Test?
The Widal test detects antibodies against Salmonella typhi and paratyphi — the bacteria that cause typhoid fever. While not the most specific test, it remains widely used in India for typhoid screening. A rising titre in paired samples (taken 1-2 weeks apart) is more reliable than a single test.
